The Art of Indra Krecere

Indra Krecere was born in Riga, Latvia, and from childhood she nurtured a deep love for Italian culture and art history. She was profoundly moved by the works of Van Dyck, Rembrandt, Raphael, and Michelangelo at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg when she was only seven years old. She had a similar experience as an adult when she first visited Venice, Rome, Assisi, and especially Florence. Even then, she could not live without painting, drawing inspiration for her creative work from music, opera, sculpture, esotericism, psychology, history, and mythology.
Even when creating commissioned portraits, she always manages to capture a unique aspect of the subject’s personality. Her portraits are never simple representations; rather, they are carefully crafted with a study of the person’s tastes, expressions, profession, and family life. Professionally, Indra has also worked in other art-related and visual fields, including designing store windows in shopping centers in Riga, interior design, and frescoes in Italy and Latvia.
Indra has also worked in education as an art teacher for children and young people. For several years, she was the official artist for the municipality of Kandava in Latvia. She has undertaken important commissions featuring historical and mythological themes and has participated in numerous exhibitions, both solo and with other artists, in Latvia and Italy (Piedmont and Lazio). Her works are part of private collections in Europe (Latvia, Italy, Denmark, Germany, etc.) and the United States. Indra Krecere had the honor of being commissioned by the Municipality of Kandava (Latvia) to decorate the city for Latvia’s centenary. Through ten murals in Kandava, she left a significant mark of her artistic talent and skill.
The Art of Indra Krecere
The nature of her varied and diverse expressions is a central theme in the works of painter Indra Krecere, born in Riga, Latvia.
Nature transforms into a metaphor for life and emotion, conveyed through an intense and delicate chromatic impact.
Indra Krecere’s painting arises from the observation of nature and the reality of everyday life, reaching, through the corporeality of the brush and the magic of color, a lyrical dimension—a transfiguration of feelings on the canvas. The natural world is not merely a representation of what is seen, but aligns with a poetics of expression and emotion, contemplation, and reflection.
Nature is the clearest expression of artistic feeling. Within this dimension, a dialogue takes place between the sensitive soul and nature—a sort of intimate relationship in which the painter is not only the material executor but also the subject of the representation itself.
